In addition, there's been several mods and conversations about multiplayer in Subnautica. What other life exists on 4546B? Part of our task will be to find out. We have sea treaders and reefbacks and more. New leviathans obviously come to mind, but countless possibilities exist for various biomes. With such an example, it becomes apparent that exploring the ecological zones for each shipwreck for each card is now tied to further exploration of far deeper or more hazardous locations.Īnd of course, we must address the hostile life that you may encounter in such a large world. But with a card or two, such depths are now attainable. If you can only equip 4 modules to the seamoth, and each depth module only add 1000m, then the 8000m depths of the void are unreachable. Let us say, for example, the depth module now adds to the available crush depth, and it is stackable. Of course, these cards are limited, and certain areas can only be reached with certain modules. Each card increases the number of modules that a vessel can have at one time, drastically increasing the ability to customize each ship. Let us say that each shipwreck contains an upgrade card that can be inserted into a vessel. Technology, of course, would be abundant for common designs like seaglides and prawns, but perhaps change up how the modules work. I also propose that at least one ship miss its target and crash in the Void, necessitating exploration of its approximate whereabouts in the dark depths. The Architects would be featured as well maybe Altera stumbled across some project of theirs? The story would be revealed as more ships are explored. Every other zone or so would have its own vessel to find. The story would consist of exploring the ecological zones to find the various Altera research ships, and determine what happened. All you know for sure is that Altera dispatched research vessels across the planet, and only a handful ever came back. As a contractor to a rival company, you have been tasked with figuring out what went wrong, and whether or not it could benefit your company. Perhaps we timeskip forward a few years/decades, and Altera has run into a spot of trouble and forced to abandon the planet. Maybe make the ghosts only appear above a certain depth, but run the risk of running into something much deadlier further below.Īs for the story? That's open to interpretation as well. Or maybe you just bite the bullet and thread the needle between all the ghosts using a cyclops? In this case, we could change up the conditions of the Void as well. Cons: it's too big to fit in most ecological zones, and there's something massive in the void that poses a threat.) Perhaps you construct a brand new super-massive sub to carry everything you could need along the way? (Pros: lots of storage, immune to ghost leviathans. Cons: it's a one-way trip, so you'll have to build another cannon to get back) How do you get there?ĭo you fashion a aerial cannon to launch yourself and some gear to the new zone? (Pros: fast travel, no threats on the way. Traveling to each new zone would also be part of the challenge. Why not a volcanic zone surrounding the nutrient-rich seabed of the underwater volcano, or a massive subterranean cave filled with jellyshrooms, or any other fantastic creations? Each area would also have unique plants and minerals that could be useful for constructions and vehicles. We already have a subarctic biome in Area Zero, and a mixed set in the Crater. Only it has limited range, so you'd have to set up another sensor in another zone to see more zones.Įach zone would have similar life, but they'd also have flora and fauna unique to each zone. Obviously, blindly wandering the void is probably not a good idea, not to mention time consuming, so we'd have to implement some kind of sensor system, probably installed on a base, that scans that particular section of the planet for life zones. So there would be two aspects of the exploration: exploring the current pocket of life, and searching around for the next one. We know that life exists in both locations, and to a limited extent in the void as well (Those ghost leviathans have to be feeding on something, after all), so who's to say there aren't other pockets of life here and there across the planet? Largely separated by the void/ecological dead zone. So, 4546B is a large oceanic planet (with the occasional landmass), but we've only explored two very small areas of it: the Crater and Sector Zero. In all honesty, I would love to see a massive revamp of the exploration aspect of both games, only resized to the entire planet.
